Regular Braces

The Basics of Braces
Standard orthodontic appliances or braces have three basic parts:

Picture of regular bracesStandard tooth braces have four basic parts - Brackets, Bands, Archwires and Ligature Ties. Brackets are attached to each tooth. They serve as guides to move the teeth and hold the archwire in place. The brackets used in orthodontics today bond directly to the teeth with a tooth-colored bonding adhesive and are much smaller and lighter than ever.

Bands are metal rings that sometimes go around the back teeth (molars and/or bicuspids) for more strength to help move the front teeth.

Ligature Ties are made of metal wire or very small elastic bands that hold the arch wire in place within the brackets.

Damon brackets are self-ligating and do not need metal or elastic ligature ties, which allows for faster tooth movement with less discomfort, fewer appointments, shorter appointments and about 6 months shorter total treatment time.

Gold Braces

Gold bracesIf you look at braces as a personal accessory - a way to have fun with your treatment and express your individual tastes, gold tooth braces is the way to go. Many people love the look of gold, and they love the dramatic look of a gold-enhanced smile. Aside from the look, gold remains one of the most durable and reliable materials known to man. This makes it a great choice for functional as well as cosmetic reasons.
