Dr. Alpan reads every smile from the face first “I make my decisions about how the teeth should look based on how I’m looking at the face, not just the teeth.” His master’s thesis was on the TMJ, and he’s logged thousands of hours in airway training, so your jaw and your breathing are built into the plan, along with a beautiful broad smile. He has also trained over 10,000 dentists and orthodontists worldwide, so the doctor designing your smile is the one who has been teaching much of the field how it’s done.

Dr. Sydney’s path to orthodontics began at five years old, trailing her mother through her orthodontic practice and as a kid with buck teeth of her own, she counted down to her own braces. Because she’s been the patient in the chair, she brings real empathy to every visit, backed by the training to deliver: a physiology degree from the University of Arizona, a DMD from Western University, and an orthodontic residency at the University of Detroit Mercy. Board-certified, she takes the time to explain every step and make treatment feel personal for kids and adults alike.

Will I need teeth pulled at Alpan Orthodontics?
Almost never. Pulling permanent teeth shrinks the arch and narrows the airway, so Dr. Alpan treats extraction as a last resort reserved for rare surgical cases. The approach moves teeth forward, not back, protecting your face, your bite, and your airway.
Do I need a referral to visit Alpan Orthodontics?

How do you handle TMJ and the airway during treatment?
They’re built into the plan from the start, not referred out. Dr. Alpan’s master’s thesis was on the TMJ, and he’s airway-trained so your jaw joints and your breathing are evaluated alongside your teeth, and the final result is a straight smile that doesn’t trade away a working jaw or a clear airway later.
Can Invisalign actually fix my bite?
Often, yes, even cases another provider said it couldn’t. Dr. Alpan has treated with Invisalign since it launched in 1999 and has trained 12,000+ other doctors to use it. At your consultation he’ll tell you honestly whether aligners will work for your bite, or whether another option fits better.
My child is young — do they really need early treatment, or is that an upsell?
The American Association of Orthodontists recommends a first evaluation by age 7, but an evaluation isn’t the same as starting treatment. Dr. Alpan will tell you straight whether your child needs early intervention or simply needs watching , no pressure to start before there’s a real reason to.
How much does orthodontic treatment cost in Los Angeles?
This is a question we hear quite often from the residents of Los Angeles county. Unfortunately, there’s no set price because various factors may affect the cost, such as the complexity of your case, the duration of the treatment, and the type of braces or appliances needed to straighten your teeth.
